The Festival of Britain Shield competition was staged for Third Division clubs using 10 man teams, and run as a  mini league format with Poole easily winning their group to qualify for the final.
Poole beat Rayleigh 70 – 50 in the first leg at Wimborne Road, before losing the second at Rayleigh by 57 – 63 to win 127 – 113 on aggregate.
This was the first piece of silverware won by the Poole club.
