The very first piece of silverware won by the Poole club was in 1951 when the Pirates beat Rayleigh inthe final of the the Festival of Britain Shield.
This was a competition for Third Division clubs split into two groups and run as a mini league with the winners meeting in a final raced over two legs.
Poole easily won their group and then went on to beat Rayleigh 117 – 113 on aggregate.
